Tribute to Mr CE Dawson 1934 – 2020

Colin E Dawson Pastor of Westoning Baptist Church 1978 to 2005 now at home with the Lord.

In the early hours of Monday 13th April 2020, God sent his angels to bring home his servant Colin Dawson, who was our pastor for 27 years and an elder for 12 years.

We, as a church, give thanks to God for the life and ministry of Pastor Dawson. He served his Lord, preaching for 60 years in churches in the UK and in other countries. He had a particular love and concern for the church in Romania amongst other countries. He preached and delivered Bibles in communist times. He was held in high regard and much loved.

He had a vision for the churches, which included setting up a seminary with Peter Hallihan which ran for 6 years at Westoning. He served many Christian organisations and charities.

He loved to teach the scriptures often insisting that we pay real attention to the words used and the historical context and literary content.

He loved preaching about Christ.  He loved giving Christ’s invitation to ‘come’. He would remind us about the whosoever, the whosoever includes you. He wanted to see people come to Jesus and be saved. He would remind us that salvation was all of grace alone.

In the time of His pastorate he saw many converted under his ministry. He also knew many times of sorrow and trial and illness. Through it all God sustained him.

We, as a church, praise God for what He did through his servant Colin Dawson. He would have wanted no praise for himself. The crown would go on the head of the Lord Jesus, who he believed in,  preached and lived and into whose presence he is now gone. All by God’s grace, he would say.

Our brother Colin will have a private burial on Monday 27th April. When the conditions allow,  God willing, we will have a thanksgiving service.

The biggest tribute we can pay to Pastor Colin Dawson is to follow the Lord Jesus whom he preached with great passion even when very weak. Think back over the messages God sent through him to you.

We send our love to His wife Mary, his children, grand children and great grand children. The Lord himself be with you all.

If you want to add your comments memories and condolences  here please do. (Moderated before publication).

Well done thou good and faithful servant, enter into the joy of thy Lord.
