Isn’t it wonderful this time of year to see the world around us coming to life again? After the long, quiet rest of winter, there is a sense of hope in the air as the landscape begins its transformation. Everywhere we look, we can see tiny buds and tender shoots pushing up from the dark earth and appearing on the trees around us.
These early signs of growth look so fragile against the elements, yet they possess a remarkable hidden strength. In just a few short weeks, what began as a delicate sprout will be strong, vibrant, and flourishing. This natural cycle reminds us of the beautiful imagery found in the Bible, which speaks of tender branches and the grass of the field springing up to clothe the earth. We find this perfectly captured in Deuteronomy 32 verse 2 where God says:
“My doctrine shall drop as the rain, my speech shall distil as the dew, as the small rain upon the tender herb, and as the showers upon the grass”
This verse teaches us that just as the “small rain” and “dew” provide the essential, quiet moisture that allows a “tender herb” to grow, so God’s word nourishes our own lives.
